The Essentials

LENA SOMMERDIJK's Way

Meet Lena Sommerdijk, founder of media agency L’AGENCY and mother of two, Maeve and Joes. Living by the forest’s edge, surrounded by trees and open skies, she finds energy in the quiet moments spent outdoors with her children, exploring the woods, cycling through the dunes, or simply sharing stories along the way.

Between motherhood and work, Lena slows down in the kitchen, where cooking becomes her form of meditation. She loves creating meals from scratch, often with Maeve and Joes by her side, passing on her love for food, creativity, and the joy of being together.

Weekend Activity?

“We live close to the forest, which gradually turns into dunes and then the beach. Spending time together as the four of us, hiking or cycling and chatting about the little things, really gives us energy and is one of our favorite weekend activities.

Sometimes we stop at places like De Republiek or Piatti, but more often we just pack some snacks and drinks, cycle through the dunes, take a walk on the beach, and head back home. It’s the perfect activity that brings me peace and often fills me with gratitude."

Energy feeder?

“I love cooking and believe that food represents so much more than just nourishment. That’s why we cook with organic ingredients, I share everything I know with her, and I try to make our meals from scratch whenever possible. Cooking, to me, is a form of meditation, a way to nurture myself and my family, and to give us energy and strength for the day. It grounds me in the moment, lets me create something with my hands, and allows me to enjoy it with loved ones. I try to involve Maeve as much as I can, and she truly enjoys helping, she already knows so much! Just last week she reminded me not to forget the hint of cinnamon in my famous pasta stew, which made me laugh. Passing on my love for food, creativity, and caring for others is a value I deeply want to share with both of my children.”

Key reminder?

“Make sure to laugh often and truly enjoy your time together.”

One-on-one time?

"Take a one-on-one trip or do a special activity together at least once a year. I recently went to London with my daughter Maeve (4), but it can be just as special to go on a long hike and have a picnic in the woods. There’s something truly magical about spending time one-on-one and being able to focus entirely on her in a different setting than at home."

Gray Label piece?

“The softness of the fabrics is simply incomparable. I haven't come across any other brand that makes clothing this soft. That's why I genuinely love every piece, though the classic hoodie is definitely a favorite. Both Joes and Maeve wear it, and they look absolutely adorable, not to mention cozy and warm. It's perfect for those crisp fall days.”
